Can collagen peptides be applied to the face?

Yes, collagen peptides can be applied topically to the face, but their actual effectiveness depends on the molecular weight of the ingredients and the skin's absorption capacity. As a topical skincare product, it primarily moisturizes and promotes skin barrier repair; it cannot directly replenish collagen lost in the dermis.

Molecular Weight and Absorption Relationship: Collagen peptides are small molecular fragments of hydrolyzed collagen (typically with a molecular weight below 5000 Daltons). Theoretically, the smaller the molecular weight, the higher the likelihood of absorption by the skin's surface. However, the skin barrier restricts the entry of large molecules into the dermis, so after application, they mainly work in the stratum corneum and cannot directly stimulate collagen regeneration.

Actual Skincare Effects:
Moisturizing and Hydrating: Collagen peptides can form a moisturizing film, relieving dry skin.

Barrier Repair: By supplementing natural moisturizing factors (NMF), it assists in repairing the stratum corneum.

Anti-Aging Aid: Some studies show that peptides of specific molecular weights may activate skin cell signaling pathways, indirectly promoting collagen synthesis, but the effect is weaker than medical aesthetic procedures (such as radiofrequency and injections).

Synergistic Effects with Other Ingredients: When combined with ingredients such as ceramides and hyaluronic acid, it can enhance moisturizing and repairing effects; when used in conjunction with vitamin C and retinol, it may enhance antioxidant and anti-wrinkle functions.

Note that topical skincare products cannot replace medical aesthetic treatments. If you wish to improve sagging and wrinkles caused by deep collagen loss, it is recommended to choose light-based treatments (such as Thermage) or collagen stimulation therapies (such as microneedling) through a professional evaluation. In daily skincare, sun protection and antioxidants remain the foundation for delaying aging.

Individual skin conditions are different, and results will vary. If redness or stinging occurs after use, please discontinue use immediately and consult a dermatologist. Skincare is a long-term process; patience and scientific skincare habits are essential for healthier and more stable skin.
